Charles Sturt University Ron Potter Centre Winery & Cheese Factory

Take the opportunity to visit the Charles Sturt University winery and cheese factory and taste their produce at the cellar door. These form an integral part of Australia's leading Wine and Food Science school and the National Wine and Grape Industry Centre situated at the Wagga Wagga campus of Charles Sturt University. The University, through its degree courses in winemaking and wine grape growing, is the major educator for the Australian wine industry and has over seven hundred students currently studying oenology and viticulture.

Don't be mislead - students do not run the winery and cheese factory. They are professionally run commercial operations using leading edge technology based on the major research and education programs carried out by Charles Sturt University. The winery focuses on producing its own range of premium table and sparkling wines from grapes grown in its own vineyards around the University, as well as other premium wine growing areas in NSW. Enjoy the wines in moderation and be part of Australia's winemaking future.

The Cheese factory was established in August 1998 and started the production of their unique cheeses for the public in early 1999. The idea behind it was to make a farmhouse cheese that contains different Australian native flavours. Barry Lillywhite, the Cheese maker at the University enterprise, uses fresh milk from the University dairy farm for their Farmhouse cheeses. When the project started the company was able to produce 200 kg of cheese a week. Today the company produces three times as much.
